Tahiti

‘Ia ora na’ - welcome to the beautiful islands of Tahiti.

Made up of 118 islands, Tahiti is divided into 5 archipelagoes including the Society Islands, the Tuamotu group, the Marquesas, the Austral Islands and the Gambier Islands.

The Society Islands are then separated into two smaller groups comprised of the Leeward and Windward Islands. This is where the world famous islands of Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora are located.

Tahiti and Papeete

The main island of Tahiti is the largest of the Polynesian group. Papeete is its capital city and international gateway.

Direct flights from Sydney, Auckland, Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo and Osaka are available via Air Tahiti Nui. Air France flies from Paris via the US, while Hawaiian Airlines flies from continental America with a stop in Hawaii.

Papeete has a host of international hotels and resorts, restaurants, shopping and nightlife. Be sure to enjoy a walk along the waterfront in town and go shopping at the colourful markets for some local treasures.

Tahiti is one of the few places that black pearls are cultured – these make great gifts. For food-loving friends, Tahitian vanilla beans are regarded as the world’s best. There is no sales tax so spend up.

Air Tahiti (different from Air Tahiti Nui) flies daily to Bora Bora and Moorea and less frequently to the outlying islands. Ferries are cheaper and good for short trips but it can get a bit rough on longer voyages.

Moorea

Moorea is located just a 10-minute flight or 30-minute boat ride from Tahiti and boasts an enchanting beauty with majestic green mountains and crystal clear lagoons.

This magical island is picture postcard beautiful. Towering lush green volcanic mountains are surrounded by stunning aquamarine lagoons.

Family holidays are full of fun activities. Swimming with dolphins at the Moorea Dolphin Center is a favourite. Many resorts cater for families with children’s activities like beach games and flower-crown weaving.

Romantics love the sunset cruises, indulgent spas and the world-class dining.

There are no strong current so snorkeling is safe year-round. Adventurous types will love the chance to feed the local sharks and stingrays.

Bora Bora

A short flight from Papeete, Bora Bora is regarded by many as the ultimate tropical romantic island destination. Imagine gazing over a picturesque crystal blue lagoon from your own private luxurious over-water bungalow. Sigh.

Also known as the 'Pearl of the Pacific', Bora Bora is fringed with idyllic motus (islets). A private gourmet lunch on a motus’s secluded white sand beach is heavenly.

Other Islands

The peaceful islands of Huahine, Raiatea, Taha’a and Tikehau offer stunning scenery and enchanting lagoons along with Polynesian culture.

Offering a diverse range of accommodation and entertainment options suitable for couples, honeymooners and families with children, Tahiti and her islands are the perfect holiday destination for all.
